Round Bars at your Wedding

When: October 2022

Where: Marquee, Market Drayton

What: Cash Bar

How (many Guests) 70 Day / 100 Evening

The Iron Bar doesn’t often work on round bars, but we have had two in two weeks this year. Even though they look lovely, they are not the most practical bars to work in. However, we are always up for a challenge, and as Sam and Ellie wanted a cash bar at their marquee wedding at the groom’s family farm in Market Drayton, we were happy to oblige.

The Problem with Round Bars…

The biggest problem with round bars is where to put all your stock. We have, at the Iron Bar, what we would like to call an extensive range of spirits, over 20 different brands of Gin for a starting point, and over 70 different spirits in total.

With a bit of planning the day before, we could set up the bar so that we could effectively use the front half of the bar for service and the other half for stock.

Guest Arrival

For this wedding, the bride and groom had decided that the catering staff would be serving the arrival drinks, allowing us a bit of extra time to set up the bar, this week we were serving Birra Moretti on draught along with a keg of Hobsons Shropstar on the handpull.

We also had a cocktail station set up to serve our signature cocktails for the wedding, which were Pornstar and Espresso Martinis and a classic Margarita.

Wedding Drinks Patterns

The bride and groom had decided they wanted their guests to have a couple of drinks with them, so they had paid for a free bar for the first two hours. Service was brisk to start with, and soon the cocktails began to flow. This, coupled with a traditional Irish Ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee) dance, kept the vast marquee tent nice and warm for the guests and ourselves.

It always amazes me how as a day flows into night, people’s drink patterns change from Prosecco and beer during the day to cocktails and spirits in the early evening to finally, shots and, for the more discerning customer, single malt whisky.

The wedding ended at midnight, and we were packed up and going home by 12.30. It was a wonderful wedding with a lovely chilled-out crowd.

Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Rowley.
